Why Friends of Walmer
Road Rec was created
Walmer
Road Rec is an established and well-loved park but in recent year has received little
funding for new facilities and improvements and experienced problems with
vandalism, litter, dog-fouling and road safety issues. Some local residents felt that more could and
should be done to make the park a place the whole community could be proud of
and enjoy.
Many
other parks and green spaces have a “Friends Group” to co-ordinate local action
and be a voice for the local community. After discussion with other local
Friends Groups we realised that a group for Walmer Road Rec could be set up
quite simply. Following the model provided
by Friends of Sutton Downs, the group agreed a constitution and came into being
on 7th March 2024.
