All our members must be aware of the harm caused by the indiscriminate use of pesticides and herbicides. East Sussex County Council are organising a series of trials that will allow residents of particular streets to ‘opt out’ of Glyphosate weed spraying. They are asking councillors to suggest any roads which they know where the residents would be interested in being considered for the trials. At this stage all they ask is that Seaford Councillors suggest the names of roads that might be suitable for trials. These roads would then be assessed to check they would be appropriate. If selected a “lead volunteer” will need to co-ordinate activity for the street, initially by ensuring that at least 60% of residents are happy to proceed.
This seems like too good an opportunity to miss! Potentially the council will stop spraying herbicides on your pavements and allow wild flowers to flourish.
Why not propose yourself and your street to be part of the trials? At this stage you are under no obligation, and only need to propose your street to the council.
Cllr. Carolyn Lambert represents Seaford on the Council and she will pass your name onto them —but the closing date is 3rd March!
