Part of the Seaford CARES project coordinated by Seaford Community Partnership
Seaford Community Partnership and Martello Rotary have been working to create a ‘Friends Group’ for each Local Green Space that was designated in the Seaford Neighbourhood Plan.
This will protect them for the future.
Group aims would be to improve and care for such green areas, to maximise biodiversity, and to make sure they remain welcoming areas for all age groups to use.
New groups have already started for:
- Princess Drive/Grand Avenue,
- Normansal Park/Chalvington Fields,
- The Ridings,
- Lexden Road
- Alfriston Road with Last Wood and Meadows.
East Blatchington Pond and Old Brickfields already have well-established friends groups.
The Town Council is providing formal agreements for the Groups to manage their own local open spaces.
Martello Rotary and Seaford Community Partnership together will initially Chair and support the new groups and ‘grow’ them to a point whereby they are happy to self-manage.
This is a partnership, and the Town Council will still remain ‘Owners’. They would need to give approval to any proposed works that could have long-term financial impacts.
Martello Rotary intend to plan social events for the new – and old – Friends’ Groups to foster involvement and promote awareness of the aims of the CARES scheme.
