Creating an outdoor learning environment at Tower House

Tower House, a satellite provision of Cuckmere House School, is dedicated to providing education for 16 boys with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.

The recent Garden Project initiative undertaken at Tower House has proven to be a tremendous success, thanks to the exceptional efforts of a team of volunteers who dedicated their time. A huge thank you to Gardening in Action, Seaford Action for Nature, Trees for Seaford, Wood Creatives and MetLife for their valuable contributions in creating a special outdoor space for the young people.’

‘The primary focus of the Garden Project was to create an outdoor learning environment for the pupils, offering them unique opportunities to engage with nature in a meaningful way. The day saw the construction and installation of raised beds, filling them with special, water-retentive compost mix, and planting a variety of sensory plants, including lavender, rudbeckia, verbena, lungwort, primrose, cirsium, lambs ears, carex, and phlox.

These activities not only fostered a sense of responsibility and teamwork among the pupils but also provided them with valuable hands-on learning experiences outside of the traditional classroom setting.’
