How wonderful that some seals are currently visiting our small beach at Splash point! Colin shares some brilliant photos of this beautiful seal.
It’s important to keep well away from the seals to keep them safe. Check out this good advice from the Cornwall Seal hospital
You can use binoculars or a zoom lens to get good views. Colin Mitchell from Seaford Natural History Society explains how he got these fantastic shots.
“As to settings the first thing to note is that I was using quite a long lens 500mm. This is necessary to stay a safe distance away and not disturb the seal. My camera was set in manual 2000th, F7.1. Possible not the best setting as I had been shooting the Kittiwakes.
The seal came up on the beach which resulted in people going down to get close up and selfies on their phones. At least two dogs were barking at it!
I have attached some photos I took this evening (8 May 2024). The settings for these were a 700mm lens 200th, F10. Again I used a long lens as the tide was out so the seal was further away.”
Thanks Colin, great advice. Do please spread the word and make sure that especially dogs and children are kept at a safe distance.
