Community Tree Event at Walmer Road

We were utterly delighted by the magnificent turnout of over 50 volunteers on May 4th who joined together to install protective caging to the recreation ground trees. This was a joint effort by several community groups including Seaford Town FC Youth, Friends of Walmer Road Rec, Trees for Seaford, Friends of Sutton Downs and Chyngton Methodist Church. The event was also supported by local councillors Becky Francomb, Ezra Cohen and James Meek – who also got their hands dirty on the day! Big shout out to football club youth chair Michael Greve and his merry men, partners and players for their energy and muscle, and to Chyngton Methodist church for ttheir much appreciated refreshments and hospitality!  Special thanks too, to East Sussex, Lewes District and Seaford Town Councils for their cooperation and support, as well as Ouse Valley Climate Action and Heritage Lottery for funding. And the sun shone down on us all. The Forth was definitely with us….

Looking ahead

Plans for the autumn planting are going forward and we will soon be leafletting in the nominated streets. We hope to be involved in May with planting fruit trees at the Peverells Community Garden and are taking forward plans for the garden at Tower House School, in conjunction with Gardening in Action.

TLC tree sessions continue into July and in June we plan to administer some care to the trees we have planted in the local primary school grounds.

Get involved

We don’t know what weather the coming months have in store, but do keep an eye on your street trees and send us a message if you notice any problems. Please help new trees during drought periods with a bucket of water a week if you are able. You might even resolve to make contact about becoming a volunteer with us!
